Construction Inspection

A construction inspection is an on-site review conducted by a building department inspector to verify that work-in-progress matches the approved plans and complies with all applicable building codes. Inspections are scheduled at defined stages of construction — typically including foundation, framing, rough electrical, rough plumbing, and final — and each must pass before the project may advance to the next construction phase.

Permits

In Practice

Missing a required inspection — or closing walls before a rough-in inspection has passed — is one of the most common and costly permit process mistakes. It typically requires opening finished surfaces so the inspector can view concealed work, adding significant time and expense. Scheduling inspections with adequate lead time, sequencing them correctly, and not covering any work until it has been inspected keeps permits active and the project on track toward a final certificate of occupancy.
